Head of the Hepatobiliopancreatic Unit of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital. In the last 5 years he has performed more than 1300 HPB surgeries, performing more than 60% with Minimally Invasive Surgery, laparoscopic and robotic.

He is a referent and pioneer in Robotic HPB surgery. More than 350 robotic interventions at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital.

Teaching Activity

  • Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona since 2013.
  • Tutor of HPB Robotic Surgeries in different Spanish Centers.
  • He has organized more than 50 Courses specialized in Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery.
  • Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences (ACMCB).
  • Associate Member of the Societat Catalana de Cirurgia since May 1985 and Full Member since October 1989.
  • Member of the Senate of Doctors of the University of Barcelona since September 1997.

  • Secretary of the Spanish Association of Surgery since 2008.

Scientific approach

Dr. Esteban Cugat is the author of more than 200 national and international scientific articles in indexed publications. He is also author of 18 book chapters. Moderator and participant in more than 80 round tables in national congresses, 200 papers and more than 300 oral communications.

Interested in technological innovation and minimally invasive surgery, he is currently working on the development of the robotic approach in the field of HPB surgery. As well as in the transmission of knowledge and dissemination of this.
